James O'Rourke Triathlon Results and Photographs
Hey Peeps.
Last Saturday was the good ole James O'Rourke Memorial Triathlon. This is the 3rd time I've raced it and it's right here in North Platte. There are 3 races: kids, competitive division, and the fitness division. This is the first year I've raced the competitive division and I didn't race last year. The last time I raced was 2 years ago in the fitness division and I won my age group. My other 2 times were: 1:33 and 1:23. The race consists of a 500 yard swim, 14 mile bike ride, and a 5K run.
This year went pretty good. My swim sucked and the wind and rain was a bummer. Overall, I was pretty happy with the race. The best part was the finish. At the RnR Marathon, the boys tried to run the finish with me, but the race officials scooted them off the course. This time they were able to sneak in and finish with me. The race director loved it! I think you will, too. The pictures choke me up a little bit...it was my favorite finish ever...better than Ironman.
Now the times. There were splits, but they included the transition times.
My times w/transitions:
Swim: 10:35
Bike: 42:31
Run: 24:27
Total: 1:17:33
Age Group 7/23
Overall 18/94

Warning: Bike Porn

Yes. It's my new bike. I like her alot. No name yet...but, definitely a chick. How do I know? She makes me feel all tinglee inside. Electra? Siren? Sancha?
I do miss Highway, but I know he's happy in his new home. Hooked him up with a friend new in triathlon. Highway will be powering him down the road this weekend for his very first triathlon. I will be admiring Highway, like a proud Papa.
Go Get Some, Highway!

Right Under My Nose
Thanks to all who submitted names for Jakey. He really liked them and especially liked the effort you all put into thinking of names for him.I wish you guys could have seen his face every day when I was showing him the comments. To say it was a morale booster would be putting it mildly. THANKS FOR THAT!
Now, to Jakey's new name. Can't believe I didn't think of it. It was right under my nose and I even called him it the other day.
First of all, Commodore knows kids...or at least he knows Jakey. Jakey really liked Ripper. He liked it because he's a FART ripper. Mom wasn't so much a fan of that one! Jakey also liked Jake-inator. Actually, Jakey laughed and smiled at every name. But one really sticks out for all of us.
It's a name his gym teacher, Mr. McGuire, has been calling him since Kindergarten. Jakey has always been pretty skinny. He was the littlest baby of our kids. You can see Jakey's ribs, his backbone. In addition, one of Jakey's favorite shirts has armbones along the sleeves and the front has ribs and a sternum...etc.
I recently spoke to the high school boys track team about motivation. Mr. McGuire contacted me after Ironman and asked if I would. It was an honor for me. A couple of days later, on the day Jakey did his B-Fit challenge, Mr. McGuire came by the house and gave me an official NP High School Track Team shirt. I told him what Jakey had done that day.
Mr. McGuire said, "Good job, Bones!"
The other day I was watching a little Discovery channel and it happened to be about our bones. Did you know that bones are the toughest material in our bodies? Bones protect our most important parts. Bones make our shape. Bones, working together with muscles, tendons, etc. help us move. Bones in our ears help us hear. Jakey is my little helper. He's such a good boy. The coolest thing is that bones are alive. They are growing and changing, like Jakey. They are tough, like Jakey.
It was then I thought, "Jakey is Bones."
And Jakey, er...Bones likes it, too. A.LOT.
Bones wanted me to tell you thanks for all of your ideas. Now he's drinking some milk...building up those bones.
